EngineeringFormula
About
What this site is, who it's built for, and how it tries to earn your trust one calculator at a time.
Built and maintained by Saurabh
Independent, solo-run project
I build and maintain EngineeringFormula myself - every calculator, every formula check, every page. I started it because most engineering calculator sites I used either buried the formula behind a black-box answer, or got a unit conversion quietly wrong with no way to check. This site shows the formula, the substitution, and the result together, so the answer is one you can verify, not just trust.
I keep expanding it based on real search demand and reader reports rather than launching everything at once - new calculators go through an independent formula and code review before they're published (see Accuracy & Methodology), and existing ones get revisited when something's reported wrong.
What EngineeringFormula is
EngineeringFormula is a reference site of engineering and applied-physics calculators. Each calculator pairs an interactive tool with the underlying formula, a step-by-step substitution, and the variables and units involved - so the answer is never just a number, it's a number you can check.
The site is organized by discipline - Civil & Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Engineering Mechanics - and is being built out one verified calculator at a time rather than launched all at once.
Who it's for
Engineering and physics students working through coursework, engineers and technicians who want a fast, transparent check on a routine calculation, and anyone else who needs a formula and a trustworthy way to apply it. The site assumes some familiarity with the underlying concepts - it's a calculation and reference tool, not a substitute for a textbook or a course.
What it provides
Every calculator shows its formula, lets you enter values in whatever units you have on hand, and displays the full substitution and result - not just a black-box number. Most pages also include worked examples, a variables-and-units reference table, common assumptions and limitations, and answers to frequently asked questions about that specific calculation.
How the site is maintained
Pages are reviewed in practical batches: first for calculation correctness, then for unit behavior, examples, assumptions, internal links, and whether a search visitor can act on the result without leaving the page. When a calculator is updated, its reviewed date is refreshed on the page so readers can see that the material is not abandoned.
The public navigation is intentionally redundant: you can browse by calculator, by formula, by discipline, or through worked examples.
How formulas are verified
Every formula on this site is checked against authoritative references - textbooks, standards bodies, and established engineering references - before it's implemented, and every calculator is tested against independently computed known-answer test cases and unit-conversion checks before it's published. The full process is described on the Accuracy & Methodology page.
What gets checked before a calculator goes live
A calculator is not considered ready just because the equation evaluates. It also needs sensible default units, clear input hints, realistic examples, stated assumptions, visible limitations, related-tool links, and at least one result interpretation that helps the user decide what to do next.
What this site does not replace
EngineeringFormula is an educational and preliminary reference tool. It does not replace a qualified engineer's professional judgment, a project's applicable codes and standards, or a formal engineering design review. See the Engineering Disclaimer for the full scope of what this site is, and isn't, meant to be used for.
Who runs this
EngineeringFormula is my independent project - it isn't affiliated with any university, standards body, or engineering firm, and I don't claim credentials I don't have. See the Editorial Policy for how content is produced and reviewed. If you spot something that looks wrong, the Contact page has a direct way to reach me.
